UBCS Class of 2008
On two beautiful warm spring nights, 17 Seniors from Upper Bucks Christian School carried on the traditions from 1976. For the 33rd time, the senior class enjoyed two special evenings to honor the accomplishments of their school years. Hundreds of family and friends met in the Bethel Baptist Church auditorium for the annual Baccalaureate service on Sunday, June 1 and the Commencement on Monday, June 2.
The Sunday service was conducted by former UBCS administrator, Pastor Steven Cruice. Since Pastor Cruice left UBCS two years ago, he has recently attained his doctor's degree and is a professor at Bob Jones University. His message to the graduates was on how God's word is the spiritual GPS for our lives. He related how the graduates need to put "God's GPS" on the dashboard of their lives as they journey on the road of life. He gave three points to support his message. First, the Word of God gives us direction. Secondly, His Word gets us back on track. Thirdly, God's detours can be trusted if we believe in Him.
Mr. Paul McLanahan gave a brief testimony at the Baccalaureate service. Paul is the father of Senior class president, Jon, and is also the brother-in-law of Dr. Cruice. Paul spoke about how quickly the time has flown by and how thankful he was for the spiritual growth in the class over the years.
On Monday night at the graduation exercise a rewarding, God-honoring time was evident. Special thanks was given to Mr. Brett Keefer, class advisor, by Brittany Clemens in her salutatory address. She reminded her classmates to "keep the focus and to keep going. Remember the One who has given you all things."
In the address by the class Valedictorian, Andrea Lawrence encouraged the class to take what they had received over the years and use it for the Lord. "As one door closes, another door opens!" Andrea indicated that half of the class had been at UBCS for their entire 13 years of education. On behalf of all her classmates, she expressed appreciation, deep gratitude and love to their parents. Andrea gave recognition to the school for their "standards and guidelines" and for the "excellence in academics, fine arts, and sports."
?During the awards presentation, special note was mentioned that Andrea had made High Honor roll for 11 out of 12 times and Brittany Clemens was the only senior to attain the gold level in the Presidential Education award. Pastor Rob Campbell gave a brief speech prior to presenting a scholarship and plaque to Jon McLanahan for the Dr. Richard A. Harris Christian Character Award. Jon gave special recognition to Mr. Keefer for his example. Jon and Josh Baun, class chaplain, gave speeches recognizing the junior class. During Jon's "Passing of the Buck" speech he proclaimed the class gifts to the school: new carpet in the upstairs high school wing and 2 media projectors with carts.
Light refreshments were served in Timothy at the conclusion of the program. Graduated seniors had display tables and the Lord was honored by the years of accomplishments.
