A Special Time Of Storytelling

Everyone enjoys a good story! On Wednesday, December 19th, the 7th grade speech class arrived at the Liberty campus to share their stories with the K-3rd graders. It was a day both the "tellers" and the "listeners" had long anticipated.

Storytelling 1In preparation for this event, the speech class had been given the assignment to choose a story to tell that would be appropriate for their age group. First, they read through the story numerous times to get the story planted in their minds. Then they began to fine tune the "telling" so that their audience would be captivated! The girls worked many hours to make this a very enjoyable experience for the children.

Teachers and students alike were blessed by this special time! Mrs. Zwart was especially impressed with how well prepared, clear, and expressive the storytellers were. The Kindergarteners made comments such as..."I liked Cinderella the best because it was fun," "I liked it best because Cinderella was beautiful." Mrs. Zwart added that the boys enjoyed The Legend of the Candy Cane because...they like candy-Now there's a reason to like a good story! Another student commented that this story was liked because an upside down candy cane makes a "J" for Jesus! Miss Gebhard shared that she "loved seeing former first graders come back mature and changed. They were GREAT!" Her first graders were especially excited by hearing these young people. "Curious George is one of my favorites," said Brandon Paskel. Conner Brittingham said, "I want them to come back; I liked the stories."

Storytelling 2When asked what they should tell Mrs. Heffernan about the story readers, Miss Clark’s second graders had this to say: "They should get A+'s - I don't like Cinderella but I would watch the movie," said Taylor Campbell. "My favorite was the candy cane story because I liked hearing about what the candy cane means," stated Justine Reed.

According to Mrs Heffernan and the speech students, they would like to do this again!
