Student Working on Computer

Keyboarding

Keyboarding starts in 5th and 6th grade with introduction to typing. Students are introduced to the proper methods of keyboarding. These include proper posture and hand positioning. They ad strongly encouraged not to look at their hands or keys. As they practice each class their speed will increase as well as their accuracy. Keyboarding games help keep their interest high.

Computer 7

In seventh grade students are introduced to word processing. After learning some of the basic skills they go on to learn formatting skills, formatting paragraphs and tabbed columns. This is one of their block classes and is one grading period in length.

Computer 8

In eight grade the students will review the concepts learned in seventh grade and then continue in work processing. Concepts like page formatting, including formatting letters and memos. Tables, columns, and charts add to their documents. Adding graphics rounds out their experience with word processing.

Computer Applications

Ninth graders move on to spreadsheets and presentations, using Excel and Powerpoint. Students learn the basics of spreadsheets, and quickly move into formulas and functions. They then move into adding charts to their spreadsheets and then design elements. Powerpoint is the next section that is studied. From basic skills to a customized presentation, the students learn to design expert presentations. From simple outlines to stories with graphics, the students learn the skills of presentation design.

Web Design

Offered as an elective to 10 – 12th grade students, this class gives the students a well grounded base for good web design. HTML codes are taught in this course, not the simple drag-and-drop web design. Knowing HTML is a big plus when troubleshooting web site problems. Learning HTML is easy and fun. Lots of hands-on practice adds to the excitement of this class.

Computer Technician

Managing and troubleshooting PCs is the goal of this course. Offered to 10th through 12th grade students as an elective, students are given many hands-on projects to cement the book knowledge of this course. Students learn how to troubleshoot computer problems determining if it has a hardware or software. A fun part of this class is taking a computer apart and putting it back together so that it still works. The class is a combination of lecture and practical application with emphasis on the hands-on aspect,
