"Examining the World in the Light of the Word"
Elementary students are introduced to earth/space science, physical science and biology, including the human body in varying degrees for complexity as they progress through elementary school.
Miss Jodi Hartenstine, Mrs. Beth Clarke
This survey course for seventh graders introduces the student to the field of biology and basic biological concepts. Topics include the relationship of science to the Christian, the cell and its functions, microscopic life, plants, animals and human structures.
This course examines the fields of astronomy and geology from a biblical perspective. Modern theories about origins of planets and stars are examined and refuted. Topics include the solar system, weather, rocks and minerals, volcanoes, earthquakes and oceanography.
Physical Science is a survey course covering chemistry and physics. Limitations of science, the atom, basic chemical symbols, acids and bases, important chemical processes and chemical lab techniques are covered in the first semester. The second semester consists of the study physics and the different forms of energy and their uses. The course ends with a discussion of nuclear energy and power plants.
Biology students study the basic concepts of biology on a high school level. The course begins with a discussion of biblical reasons for studying science. Throughout the course, assertions of evolutionary theories are examined in the light of Scripture and observational science. Topics include the cell, genetics, taxonomy, the five kingdoms of organisms. Advanced cytology, an in-depth look at genetics, bacteriology and human anatomy/physiology.
This course is designed to expose students to the basic concepts of chemistry and problem solving in chemistry. Topics cover atomic theory, including the quantum atom, bonding states of matter, chemical equations, solutions, thermodynamics, and oxidation-reduction. The course is specifically designed as a college preparatory course.
This course is designed to expose the students to the basic concepts of physics and problem solving in physics. Topics are taught from the classical physical approach. Units included in the course cover the types of energy and mathematical descriptions for each including kinetic, potential, electricity, magnetism, waves, sound, light, and nuclear. This course is a good review of al areas of mathematics the student has learned. It is designed for those students who expect to take college level math or science courses.
