English Students Working

Upper Bucks Christian School places a great deal of emphasis on the visual arts. The courses are designed to be age-appropriate, taking into account the capabilities and talents of the various grade levels. Students are exposed to a wide variety of media and receive a well-rounded experience including art history.

Art 7

The goal of this course is to continue exposure to many of the elements of art already introduced in elementary school. Some elements such as color, unity, space, balance, should be close to mastery. A variety of media is used.

Art 8

The goal of this course is to continue exposure to many of the elements of art introduced in art 7. In addition to elements mentioned in Art 7, movement and rhythm, sources of design, pattern, line, shape/form and value are taught. A variety of media is used.

Art I

The goal of this course is to provide the students with a basic knowledge of professional artwork. A high quality of artwork is expected. A concentrated emphasis is applied to pencil drawing using line and value. A number of other media is taught as well including pen and ink, batik and acrylic painting (minor emphasis on creativity).

Art II

The goal of this course is to continue the concentration on quality in artwork produced. A few basic ingredients are continued from their introduction in Art I: creativity, work habits, quality and quantity of work. Moderate emphasis is placed on creativity. A concentrated emphasis is on a number of media including calligraphy, pen and ink drawing, watercolor painting, illustration and pencil drawing.

Art III

Ingredients continue from their inception in both Art I and Art II including creativity, work habits, quality and quantity of work produced. High emphasis is placed on creativity. A concentrated emphasis on a number of media includes acrylic painting, watercolor painting, pen and ink drawing and possibly oil painting.

Yearbook

The main goal of this course is to produce the yearbook of Upper Bucks Christian School, The Torch. Just as important, however, the student is taught the following concepts: design, order and printing terms with stress placed on photography, layout and meeting deadlines.
