Success Stories - Rebecca Struwe '01

Life is a Journey

"You never know where life will lead you,” is a lesson that Becky Struwe has learned over the last few years. So far, life after high school has led Becky to Bob Jones University, to Washington, D.C., to the Ukraine, back to D.C., and now to a career that will take her all across the globe.
After graduating from UBCS in 2001, Becky headed to Bob Jones University. As part of her studies, she spent a semester in Washington, D.C. doing a political internship. Deciding that she wanted to stay in the D.C. area, Becky transferred to George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia, where she is majoring in Global Affairs and Spanish.
“It’s the perfect major for me,” says Becky. “With a background as part of a missionary family to Ecuador, having traveled to Uruguay and the Ukraine on my own, and teaching English as a Second Language to the immigrant community, my studies allow me to continue pursuing these interests in the global arena.”

Because of her academic accomplishments and international interests, Becky was recently selected as one of twenty undergraduate recipients of the Thomas Pickering Foreign Affairs Fellowship, a selective fellowship program administered by the US Department of State. During the course of her studies, Becky will complete both a domestic and overseas internship with the State Department. After she finishes a master’s degree, she will be employed with the department as a Foreign Service Officer. Looking forward to these experiences, Becky reflects, “I’m so grateful for God’s provision in my life. UBCS truly equipped me for both spiritual and academic success in my life. The fellowship provides generously for my undergraduate and graduate education, and helps me jumpstart the career that I’ve been pursuing. I have a lot to look forward to in the years to come, and I’m excited to see where God will take me.”
